Divorce Consultation
I am a lawyer and mediator who does divorce consultation, also known as divorce coaching, divorce advice and divorce and child custody consultations. Why do I do this? Because I believe passionately in helping parents work out their differences for the sake of their child. And I have been doing it successfully for more than 25 years. If you are getting separated or divorced, or if you are a never-married parent, you will have questions, such as, What are my rights? What do I do now?, What do I face, emotionally, psychologically and financially? What are my rights and obligations regarding custody, access (visitation) and financial child support? What happens to my children? How can I resolve the issues with the other parent without walking over the children? Do I need a lawyer, mediator, or other professional to help me?
The first thing you should do is contact me, or someone like me, to help resolve problems without going to court. I have 26 years experience of consulting with parents, much of which I did as co-founder and president of the Children's Rights Council (CRC),, a national organization based in Maryland. CRC works for passage of joint custody laws, advocates for children, favors mediation, and has counseled thousands of parents on an individual basis. I was named one of the "25 Most Effective People in our Children's Lives" by Children's Health magazine, Fall, 2009 issue.
I have long been successful at helping children to have two active parents — and extended family — in their lives. This has been a concern of mine for many years, following my own custody battle when my first wife and I got divorced more than 30 years ago. I had a custody battle, but mercifully, it did not last long. But that battle sensitized me to what goes on in divorce with children. So I and others formed the Children's Rights Council to help other parents across the country. My first wife and I had a son, and he has grown up into a fine young man. I later re-married, and my second, last, continuing permanent second wife and I have a fine daughter.
